Course Opportunities Overview




ATG211 Introduction to Financial Accounting (Required 3). Financial Accounting with emphasis on the concepts and standards for financial reporting in corporate accounting. Sophomore standing.


ATG212 Introduction to Management Accounting (Required 3). Introduction to uses of accounting data for planning, control and decision making.
Prerequisite: ATG211.


ATG310 Accounting Information Systems (3). The purpose of this course is to examine contemporary topics concerning the use of information technology (IT) and Accounting Information Systems (AIS) by modern business organizations and to explore the accountant’s potential role as user, manager, auditor and/or designer of such technologies and systems. Prerequisites: Junior Standing, ATG212 (or 321) and ATG303 or permission of instructor. The course is open only to accounting majors and minors. ATG minor requirement also open to MIS majors and MIS minors (with instructor approval).


FIN 301 Introduction to Personal Finance (3). The purpose of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the basics of personal finance. An introduction will be given to budgeting, financial goal setting, insurance concepts, and retirement and estate planning. Students will be given information on how to seek help from finance professionals and sources for more advanced information on financial planning.


FIN303 Money & Financial Institutions (3). A study of the role of money and the flow of funds in the financial process and their relationship to the U.S. and international financial systems. The course will also cover financial institutions and the characteristics of the main financial markets.
Prerequisite: ES101.


FIN307 Business Economics (Required 3). A fundamental course in the business aspects of both macro and micro-economics with specific focus on the relations between financial decision making, the economy and consumers.


FIN311 Business Finance (Required 3). An introduction to corporate finance from the viewpoint of the financial manager. Major topics include the fundamental concepts, financial theory, time value of money, cash flow valuation, stocks and bonds, capital budgeting and risk and return.
Prerequisites: ATG211, FIN307 and DS 280.
